Sand Dollar

Crecia al lado del mar, en Huntington Beach, y de nina mi madre me contaba la leyenda del Dolar de Arena. Me la recorde cuando encontraron Sara y Alex unos dolares de arena en San Quintin.

As a little girl growing up next to the beach, Huntington, my mother would tell me the legend of the Sand Dollar. I remembered it when Sara and Alex found some sand dollars in San Quintin.

The Legend of the Sand DollarThere’s a legend

that I would like to tell,

of the birth and death of Jesus,

found in this lowly shell.

Hay una leyenda

que me gustaría contar,

del nacimiento y muerte de Jesús,

encontrado en este caparazón humilde.

If you examine closely,

you’ll see that you find here,

four nail holes and a fifth one,

made by a Roman’s spear.

Si se examina de cerca,

verás que puedes encontrar aquí,

cuatro agujeros de los clavos y un quinto,

realizados por una lanza romana.

On one side the Easter lily,

its center is the star,
that appeared unto the shepherds

and led them from afar.

Por un lado, el lirio de Pascua,

su centro es la estrella,

que se apareció a los pastores

y los lleva de lejos.

The Christmas Poinsettia

etched on the other side,

reminds us of His birthday,

our happy Christmastide.

La Flor de Pascua de Navidad

grabado en el otro lado,

nos recuerda de su cumpleaños,

nuestro tiempo de Navidad feliz.

Now break the center open,

and here you will release,

the five white doves awaiting,

to spread Good Will and Peace.

Ahora romper el centro abierto,

y aquí se dará a conocer,

las cinco palomas blancas en espera,

para difundir la Buena Voluntad y la Paz.

This simple little symbol,

Christ left for you and me,
to help us spread His Gospel,

through all Eternity.

Este símbolo pequeño y sencillo,

Cristo dejó a ti y a mí,

para ayudarnos a difundir su Evangelio,

por toda la eternidad.
