Volverán las oscuras golondrinas 

en tu balcón su nidos a colgar,

y otra vez con el ala en sus cristales

La golondrina más conocida, con alas largas y puntiagudas y cola profundamente ahorquillado es la golondrina común (hirundo rústica).

The most known well-known sparrow, with long and sharp-pointed wings and long forked tail is the common swallow. Thank you, Alex, for the book Birds of Europe that has told us more about these beautiful birds that have returned from their annual migration.

Supe que habían llegado las golondrinas a España porque empecé a oirlas por todas partes de la ciudad. Como en un sueño estuve descansando con los ojos cerrados en la habitación del ático cuando por la ventana abierta en el techo oí el cantar de lo que me parecieron millones de pájaros. Sus voces son muy parlanchinas con canto gorjeante y fluido con trinos y repiqueteo final.  Juegan y cantar a la vez.

I knew that the swallows had returned to Spain because I started hearing them everywhere in the city. While I was resting with my eyes closed in our loft bedroom where I heard their singing through the rooftop window like in a dream and there seemed to be millions of them. Their chattering and chirping voices are fluid song with trills and final drumbeats. They play and sing at the same time.

Habitan en establos, pueblos, y afortunadamente para nosotros, también en las ciudades como Astorga.

They make their dwellings in stables, town, and fortunately for us, also in cities like Astorga.

While walking along the Roman wall last night with swallows swooping all around us, one even brushed against my face.

Sara recordó una tierna historia de una pareja de golondrinas. A menudo olvidamos cuán preciosa es la vida animal que nos rodea. Esto es sólo un ejemplo más.
Sara remembered a tender story of a pair of swallows. We often forget how precious animal life around us is. This is just one more example.
