Schola Academy

El viernes viene el Profesor Wesley Callihan, un académico de primera calidad que vive en Idaho y que da clases online a muchos estudiantes, tanto de EE.UU como del extranjero. Viene con su familia a pasar una semana con nosotros y enseñar en la academia veraniega, Schola Academy - Muchos estudiantes de diferentes estados asistirán a clases de Astronomía, Historia de Catolicismo y Poesía, entre algunas otras. A mí también me encantaría asistir, pero primero me tengo que ocupar de alojar a unas 24 personas, organizar los horarios de ducha, y preparar los menús, incluídos dos especiales para dos persona celíacas y otra que no tolera los lácteos, como yo. Este fin de semana hemos estado pintando los muebles del jardín, y preparándo algunas cosas para acomodarles. En fin, qué estamos todos entusiasmados. ¡Otra aventura!
This Friday, first-class scholar and professor, Wesley Callihan, who lives in Idaho and teaches online courses to many students both in and outside the US is arriving. He and his family are coming to stay a week with us and he will teach a summer session in person, Schola Academy -

Many students from different states will attend classes in Astronomy, Early Church History, Poetry and more. I would like to attend, but for right now I have to think about where to put 24 people, arrange airport pickup, shower and meal schedules, and prepare a menu, including the special needs of two with Celiacs Disease and another who is dairy intolerant, like I am. This week we have been painting furniture in the yard, and getting everything ready to welcome them. To sum it up, we are all excited. A new adventure!

Measuring Stick

I love this bright red pot with old fashioned wooden measuring sticks. When I saw it at a craft faire it immediately made me think of the end of each school year. . .
Al final del ano escolar es cuando una profesora evalua no solamente el progreso de sus estudiantes, sino su propia eficiencia como maestra. Se pregunta si realmente ha sido una inspiracion para sus alumnos y si en efecto estan a la altura de avanzar al nivel mas alto. Es la estacion dura de medicion.
The end of the school year is when an instructor evaluates not just the progess of her students, but her own efficiency as a teacher. She asks herself if she has really been an inspiration for her students and if they truly measure up to advancing to the next level. It's the hard season of the measuring stick.

We can and should measure things like progress and growth. Sometimes, however, we measure ourselves against one another, or others do the same to us. Enjoy your life without comparisons and be free.
